  • Our mega day pack
  • Slides over the handle of any rolling bag
  • 1400-cubic-inch main compartment
  • An ideal "big bag" for kids
Color:Black
Description
  • Big Deal: Our Appenzell Day Pack is perfect for the traveler who wants to pack plenty for the day's sightseeing — or carry enough stuff for two. It's also the ideal "junior big bag" for kids who aren't ready to lug around a full-size carry-on bag.
  • Feels Good: Ergonomically curved and padded straps and a breathable back panel give this a comfy fit, no matter how much weight you carry.
  • Outside: The classic, Rick Steves outer-pocket design combination gives it a clean, efficient look. The top zipper opens to reveal a 12" x 16" compartment (perfect for a jacket). Two additional front pockets (large and small) a mesh water-bottle pocket on each side, and a padded grab handle complete the outside. The sleek, reverse-style zippers (better for keeping moisture out) feature heavy-duty pulls.
  • Inside: The cavernous 1400-cubic-inch main compartment includes a full-width back pocket that is large enough for a laptop.

This is a great backpack for travel. Roomy, lots of pockets (sometimes hard to remember where you stashed stuff!). I wish it had a chest strap and possibly a hip strap. And some additional loops on the straps and outside of the bag would be useful for adding carabiners, bike helmet net, etc. but otherwise very functional. Agree the zippers sometimes don’t work well around corners but not a dealbreaker.

Overall this is a good pack for travel. It holds a lot and the multiple compartments help keep my things organized. I do find the zipper mechanisms are not as smooth as I expected and the tabs get hung up with the overlying fabric edges. I wish the zippers had those little elastic loops on them to enable grabbing the tab more easily, but the tabs do not have the usual hole in the ends so I can't add the pulls myself.

Good size, lightweight, great pockets.

Almost perfect - well made, zippers are sturdy and plenty of pockets to store things. Great size, not small and not huge. However, missing an inside hook/ring to attach keys, AirTag, etc. Also no internal zippered mesh pocket to secure things within the pockets.

The Appenzell Day pack is large and feels very well constructed. I was able to carry around supplies for a family of four during our days in the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, and Germany. My only complaint with the bag is that the main compartment zipper would often get stuck in the flap intended to keep rain off of the zipper. I would also prefer if all of the zipper pockets had 2 zippers. I would also consider adding some spots to attach carabiners to the outside.

Hi there, thank you for sharing your detailed feedback on the Appenzell Day Pack! We're glad it served you well on your travels. We'll pass your suggestions about the zippers and additional attachment points to our team for future improvements. Safe travels!

Love my bag! I bought mine 10 years ago for my first tour with Rick Steves and have used it on almost every trip no matter how short. The storage in this bag is great!

I haven't used this yet, but it sure looks like it's exactly what I want it to be. I'll be traveling in the fall and having to juggle bags on my own on and off trains and planes. I want to be able to throw the personal item over my shoulder so I can have two hands to maneuver the larger suitcase. This backpack style should be perfect. It will fit under the seat on the plane. I love all the compartments, how lightweight it is, that it's flexible, and definitely well constructed with quality material.

Just returned from a two week tour of the UK using the Appenzell Day Pack. I liked the size of the bag. It is bigger than my previous day pack. Coupled with the rolling carry-on and packing cube set, I was able to pack everything I needed, and could navigate through the planes, trains, buses, taxis and hotels with ease. It had comfortable shoulder straps, and easily accessible outside pockets.

I keep coming back to this bag over and over again as my personal item to carry on the plane. It's sturdy, roomy and the padded straps keep me choosing this bag to avoid back and shoulder pain from carrying other bags on one shoulder as a tote. I've had this bag for about five years and it's held up so well.

We both have owned an Appenzell pack for decades now and find they are absolutely the best for underseat carryon. I've tried others which turned out to not be as study, as well laid out or as easy to pack and carry. The others have always been returned. Our first choice is always the Appenzell and the 2-wheel rolling bag for packability, for light weight and for eaze of finding our items!
